Bet on Uncle Bruce

Bet on Uncle Bruce is an annual tournament that we started doing three years ago. It started in memory of my uncle Bruce, my dad's brother, who died from cancer, so all the money raised goes to cancer organizations. Our motto is double down fore a cause, golf, bowl, and gamble. My uncle Bruce was born on October, 7th, 1953 and died at the age of 59 on March 5th, 2012. Bruce had many many many friends, and everybody knew Bruce as uncle Bruce.

Third Year of Bet on Uncle Bruce! (This year, 2014)

In this tournament you sign up as a group of four. Through the day you bowl two games, golf one round of nine holes, and do some gambling. There are also some raffle prizes, so throughout the day you can buy raffle tickets. There are also some silent and live auctions. People start showing up about 9 and get registered and situated. Each team bets on the games going on that day and which team they think will win. It officially starts about 10.a.m. when everyone starts bowling their two games. The white pins are mixed up with some striped colorful ones, so when a team gets a striped pin as their head pin they can bid money on the bowler. For however much they bid, they get a certain amout of tickets and if they knock down nine they get double there tickets, and if they get a strike they get double there money. After bowling we eat and then get ready to golf. While golfing there are two holes that are Par 3 to bid at. So, when someone is up to tee off at a Par 3 they can bid and get tickets again like before. If the ball hits the green you double your tickets and if its roughly 20 within the hole boundary you double your money. After golfing everyone goes back to the bowling alley and snacks. When everyone gets back we start drawling names for raffle prizes and for those you want to, finish up bidding. About four o'clock is when we quit the silent auction and announce the winners for that, and then after is when we do the live auction. Also, through out this time is when we figure out and announce the winners of the tournament. There are usually about three, but after bidding we have a toast and are then free to go. We always take a group pictures after. Everyone enjoys having a get together with some competitive fun! We always look forward to the next year for some more excitement!
